DLC Nurse and Learn announces its Open House

DLC Nurse & Learn is a special education school dedicated to meeting all the needs of special needs children in a Christian, loving atmosphere. Our program is based upon the idea that children with handicaps are children first and their potential is ours to discover. We strive to help each child reach this potential by providing normalized activities geared toward individual skill levels. We believe this is best done when therapies are incorporated into daily activities. At DLC, our attitude gives your child the opportunity to say Yes, I can!

To get started we are asking for parents, therapists, teachers, and doctors to join us in an ideas exchange. If anyone has a question or a specific problem concerning their child, please feel free to share the situation on our blog site for suggestions from others that might help. This will be an opportunity for brainstorming to take place and possible solutions to be found. Your blogs will be read by DLC staff and approved before posting.

From time to time DLC will post inspirational stories about our students and their successes. Additionally DLC therapists will be posting ideas for therapeutic activiies that you may want to try with your child. These activities may be used by parents, caregivers, as well as teachers for use in the home and classroom. Always remember to check with your child's doctor or therapy team before trying any of these therapy suggestions.

It is the hope of DLC that this blog will inspire a spirt of support for one another as we journey together through this time of growth and discovery with you and your children. As a faith based organization we encourage posting of prayer requests for any concerns you may have. All things are possible with faith and the love of God.

Let the blogging begin!

Re: Getting Started

Amy, I'm very excited about this new website and blog. I hope it will open up a meaningful dialogue between our parents and health professionals here and abroad.

Re: Getting Started

Wonderful idea!! Way to go DLC!

My family is looking forward to the annual Family Cafe conference in Orlando, the weekend of June 18-20th. This will be our 3rd year in attendance and we definitely recommend it! It's a unique conference designed to offer workshops, keynote speakers, exhibits and activities to families affected by disability. It's held at Disney Coronado Springs resort and you're not too late to register. Just go to www.familycafe.net to do so. It may be too late to qualify for financial assistance, but try anyways. We were able to go for free the first year. Anyone living 60 or miles away from Orlando can apply for a scholarship.

Re: Getting Started

The Mustang Club is holding its annual Car Show to benefit DLC Nurse & Learn this Saturday at the Landing downtown. It will start at 10am and end by 4pm. Come out and help at the DLC booth and check out the cars.
